This photo is totally out of character for me,LOL.
Last weekend, on the lake I live on, there was a hydroplane regatta. It is actually quite amazing. This year they had these Grand Prix Class boats participating. They were placed in the water by cranes, can achieve speeds up to 250 KM/hour and cost anywhere from $50,000 and up ( someone told me this, could be wrong...). They are also quite possibly the loudest things I have ever heard, short of a jet engine.
That said, these guys were racing in my backyard!! We had a dock party and watched them all day...
This poor guy's boat died halfway through the race, a few hundred feet off my dock. He was lucky to be out of the way ( he had been leading ) and was not injured but he was definitely not happy! He had to wait for a tow from the boat you see in the picture with him...tough luck for him...memorable pic for me...
